Didsbury Diamonds Girls Cricket Academy Launch

Last Monday saw the successful launch of our girls Cricket Academy, The Didsbury Diamonds. It was a fantastic evening, the weather was perfect for introducing girls to our wonderful sport!
Our head coach and Diamonds manager Paul was assisted by his coaching team of Hannah, Lauren and Amna from Didsbury Women’s first team. Both Hannah and Lauren bring the added experience of representing Lancashire, and Lauren also plays for the Australian Shooting Stars and the Sydney Sixers in the women’s Big Bash League!

We had no idea how many girls would turn up, if indeed any! Kips and Lauren were tasked to be meet and greeters whilst everyone else set up the coaching area. It wasn’t long before their greeting and clipboard holding skills were put to the test, as eight young ladies turned up full of enthusiasm and ready to get started!

As Kips took parental consents, Lauren was itching to get started with the coaches, but before she did, in cricket terms she dropped and absolute dolly….by mistakingly confusing a boy as one of our new girls…oops! Clearly, Lauren was still suffering from jet-lag!

It wasn’t long before the session got underway, it was clear to everyone that watched that the girls were having a great time!

The session was fun filled to introduce the girls into basic cricket skills, which the girls took to like a duck to water! The session finished off with a fun game of quick cricket, in which both teams excelled! Before the girls went home, Paul and the coaches shared some exciting news!

The Didsbury Diamonds had been selected to be Lancashire Lightning mascots for their biggest game of the season at Emirates Old Trafford, when Lancashire take on county rivals Yorkshire Vikings…live on Sky Sports on June 3rd!

We were absolutely delighted with the turnout, and hope we’ll have more girls joining us tonight and over the coming weeks!  We were even more delighted with the feedback we received from one happy mum;

Diamonds coaching team – lovely piece of parent feedback: “Amirah enjoyed it so much that this morning she said ” I wish I could train every day” and that’s not like her. I always have to encourage her to participate”.

If you’d like to come along and sparkle with our Diamonds, we train on Monday evenings between 5-6pm at Didsbury Cricket Club! If you’d like more info, you can contact Paul at; didsburydiamonds@gmail.com we look forward to seeing you on Mondays!
